Music is an integral part of the curriculum here at St. Mary’s. Our school marching band was founded by Sr. Stephanie Conway in 1987 and our pupils have proudly marched in St. Patrick’s Day parades ever since. Throughout the year, the children have the opportunity to acquire skills on a variety of instruments-tin whistle, recorder, accordion and drums. Band members learn an assortment of marches and waltzes and they are accompanied by our high stepping majorettes who perform fabulous sequences to complement these wonderful melodies.
We have had the honour of performing for our President Michael D Higgins some years ago. Most recently, our performance at the Fleadh Ceol in Ballina saw us winning first place and bringing home our first cup!
We look forward to many more years of musical success and to welcoming our newest members this year.
