A Health Promoting School can be characterised as a school community constantly strengthening its capacity as a healthy setting for living, learning and working. St. Mary’s proudly flies the Healthy Ireland-Health Promoting Schools’ (HPS) Flag which was awarded as an acknowledgment of our work to help improve the health of our school and community. Various activities and events are organised throughout the school calendar- Healthy Eating Week, World Heart Day, meditation, mindfulness, physical activities etc. Currently we are working towards the Pieta Amber Flag which will recognise the efforts we make in our school to create a healthy, inclusive environment that supports mental well-being. Our Student Council are conducting an audit of the activities and services in the school that promote an ethos of Positive Mental Health. Then three goals will be identified for the academic year 2021/2022 so as to enhance the existing educational provision and support structures in the area of mental health promotion in the school. Our application for the Amber Flag will be submitted in June 2022.
