A.S.D. Classes
On the 1st of September 2021 our school was very proud to welcome the first students into our two new Special Classes. On 29th of August 2023 we were delighted to open a third ASD class. Each class has six students, one class teacher and two SNAs (Special Needs Assistants). While currently in temporary accommodation, each classroom has its own sensory room, where students have access to a variety of equipment to help them to self-regulate or chill out as necessary in a safe and supervised space. Classes also have the use of the sensory playground within the school grounds, where they can climb, swing and slide to their hearts’ content, or just sit in the shade of the trees and relax. Learning in these classes focuses on the overall development of each child, both as an individual and as a member of the wider school community. We recognise the strengths of each of our students and work with them in developing different skills such as fine and gross motor, communication and social skills through the use of visuals, ICT and differentiated curriculum. It is hoped that our students will integrate into the mainstream classes where possible, and of course, will be included and involved in all whole school initiatives such as Green Schools, Developmental Education and Active Schools.
